Traveling is living. Living the destination for a few hours, a few days, a few weeks. Living its culture, living its landscapes and living with its people. There are some places where you travel to that remain with you as a life experience. Donostia-San Sebastián is one of them.
The image of the sunset in La Concha Bay is stored in thousands of mobile phones and cameras, but also in the memories of those who have already visited us. That is the postcard image of our city. But Donostia hides much more.
THE ESSENCE OF SAN SEBASTIÁN
It runs along its coastline from Zurriola beach, passing through Paseo Nuevo until reaching Peine del Viento. Some of the best Basque sculptors will accompany you with their sculptures: Chillida, Oteiza, Basterretxea.
Walk along the bank of the Urumea Riverstrong>. Its bridges, the Hotel Maria Cristinastrong>, the Victoria Eugenia Theaterstrong>, the Kursaal Conference Center and Auditoriumstrong> will have made you travel through the history of the city through the different architectural styles that you will see.
Take off your shoes and rest! Yes. Take off your shoes and go down to step on the sand at Ondarreta, Zurriola or La Concha beach. It is smooth and fine. Light-coloured. Let the Cantabrian Sea wet your feet while you contemplate the landscape and record it forever: Mount Igueldo, Santa Clara Island, the Urgull and Ulía mountains. A privileged natural environment.
Donostia inspires. Don't they usually say that people are conquered by the stomach? We are specialists on it.
Our renowned chefs have carried the name of the city around the world. They, with their Michelin-starred restaurants, and also many others, offering every day in the city's bars a full variety of pintxos that are true samples of miniature haute cuisine. Therefore ... Savour San Sebastián! A pintxos route through the Old Town is a must.
We are lucky to have quality raw materials. The best products of the land arrive at La Bretxa and San Martín markets every day from the hands of our local farmers.
The land… Our roots. Our culture. Our tradition. Our history. Our living that we share with those who visit us. You only need a drum, a txapela or a colored T-shirt to feel like one of us on the day of the Tamborrada on January 20, on the day of Santo Tomás on December 21 or in the drifting regattas of September.
The numerous festivals in the city (the Zinemaldia, the Jazzaldia, the Musical Fortnight, the Horror and Fantasy Film Week, etc.) the Chillida-Leku museum, the San Telmo Museum, the Aquarium or the Eureka science museum! they are also part of our hallmarks.
OUR NEIGHBORING VILLAGES
Living San Sebastián is also getting to know its neighbouring towns. Zarautz, with its beach and promenade, Getaria with its port and the Balenciaga Museum, Hondarribia with its Marina neighbourhood, Zumaia with its Flysch route or, beyond the border with France, Hendaye, Saint Jean de Luz and Biarritz. Only a few kilometres separate us. They are worth visiting!
